Bunscoil Lughaidh Naofa.
End of School year 2022 – ‘23
Approaching the end of a very busy school year we look back at a year of many changes. Over the course of the year a number of staff, due to different circumstances, were forced to take time out from school. Thankfully we were blessed to source competent staff to replace same. A great amount of changes for the betterment of the pupils has been implemented in additional support areas. Our Language Support, Special Educational needs teachers under the stewardship of Deputy Principal Mr. Bowe have been expanded in capacity.
Our school is now communicating through Aladdin which parents link into and information from the school will be sent via Aladdin going forward. If anyone has any issues linking they are welcome to come to the school and we will sort it for them.
Activities throughout the year:
Soccer training took place for all classes led by a wonderful coach Euan which we will have again next year, hopefully.
Cumann na nBunscoil coaching also took place in January. Once again we had a fine group of girls partaking in the Football fixtures. While they didn’t reach the final they did win some of their five matches and benefitted from their training under the coaching of Mr. Loughran and Mr. Finnegan and also Una Duffy, our SNA who accompanied the girls. We thank them for their time and work after school as the girls enjoyed the experience and entered the team spirit very well.
Swimming lessons in Aura Leisure Centre in Dundalk were organised for Rang III and Rand IV in October/November.
Thank you to the teachers in Rang VI, Mrs Murphy and Mr. Loughran, who taught the children the repertoire of songs and then accompanied the children to the Arena in Belfast on Sunday 26th February to take part in the Peace Proms.
A big thank you to Mr. Cunningham who guided Rang V children through the whole Junior Entrepreneurs Programme culminating in the girls marketing their creations and selling them in a sale for the whole school.
On 27 th January four girls from Rang VI took part in the Credit Union Quiz, Lily H., Aoife C., Jessica E. and Aoife O’N..
Thank you to the parents and teachers who brought the children to represent their school in the annual St.Patrick’s Day Parade.
Confirmation took place in St.Joseph’s Church on Saturday 6 th May. Bishop Laurence Duffy presided. First Holy Communion took place for the children in Rang II on Saturday 13 th May. A sincere thank you to the teachers for the time and effort they put in to preparing the
children for these sacraments. Ms.Murphy and Mr.Loughran for Confirmation and Ms.Matthews, Ms.Burns and Ms.Walsh for Holy Communion.
Ceili dancing lessons took place for classes Rang II to Rang V for the past six weeks which the children really enjoyed.
Teachers organized school tours for their classes which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
We say goodbye to the girls in Rang VI who have completed their primary education here in Bunscoil. Thank you to all the teachers who taught them and thank you to their parents for their support and co-operation over the past eight years. The Farewell celebration took place on Friday 23 rd June. We wish them well in their second level education. They have been academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually well prepared here in Bunscoil by their teachers and we envisage they will work and reach their full potential in secondary school. We wish them happiness and God’s Blessing in their future.
The Staff and I wish to sincerely thank The Parents Association for their support and loyalty and their contribution to the school over the year. It is hugely important to have a vibrant Parent Association working with the School Personnel on behalf of your children. Sadly this
has been left to a very few generous dedicated parents. However, come September more parents will hopefully get involved as this is very important for interaction and co-operation between parents and teachers for the betterment of your children.
Holidays begin on Tuesday 27th at 12pm. School re-opens on Thursday 31st August 2023. We
look forward to seeing you all then. Tá súil agam go mbeidh samhradh sona aoibhinn
sábháilte agaibh go léir. Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable summer.
Le Gach Dea-mhéin.
Maeve and Staff.
