Bunscoil Lughaidh Newsletter – June 2021
Hello and welcome to the summer 2021 newsletter of Bunscoil Lughaidh Naofa. Thankfully we are delighted to say we have reached the end of term 3 with no incident of covid 19 in the school. It’s been a year quite different to any we’ve ever experienced before. So many of our projects and events had to be cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. Social distancing regulations restricted our swimming lessons, football matches, debating and quiz competitions, dancing lessons, choir, school tours and Christmas plays. Even poor Santa had a socially distanced visit from outside the classrooms. We’ve missed out a lot to say the least. However, thanks to the online learning platform Seesaw and by using virtual learning tools and resources we, (school and families) collectively managed to engage the pupils in many learning activities of the highest standard possible in these difficult times. Additionally, despite the challenges faced by all, organisation by the teachers enabled the pupils to enjoy a socially distanced, safe and fun filled sports day in the recent fantastic spell of weather.
I, as principal, and the Board of Management are proud of the entire staff of Bunscoil, encompassing all our dedicated teachers, our hard-working secretary, SNAs, caretaker and cleaners. The co-operation and generosity of spirit and camaraderie of all ensures this school is a pleasant workplace. Children, ever sensitive to atmosphere, detect this right away and thus we have happy, very well cared for children who know they are cherished. This makes learning fun, relaxed and free from stress.
The children of Bunscoil are to be highly praised for their good manners and good behaviour. Before returning to school last September a lot of time was spent planning how we could ensure children’s return to a safe environment. We wondered how the theory would work out in practice. But the children just did exactly as directed which meant we kept safe and covid free. We say goodbye to Rang a sé and wish them well in their second level education.
Summertime is always very busy in Bunscoil. Last summer the whole building got an electrical upgrade. The year before all windows and doors were replaced. In other years we had the entire school grounds fenced, a new disability bathroom suite built, the floor in the GP room re-varnished and the playground resurfaced to name but a few of the works carried out. This summer’s plans are re-painting and re-flooring. All works, past and present, continue to improve our well-maintained school building and grounds.
Finally, it is with the deepest sincerity I thank the parents of the children for their help and co-operation during this difficult year. You have been fantastic in your acceptance of the changes thrust upon both of us. Thank you and may you have a well-deserved and wonderful summer. Enjoy and keep safe. We look forward to a safe and pleasant re-opening on Tuesday 31st of August 2021.
Le gach Dea on Mhéin.
Maeve.
